The dream of a Major League Baseball franchise coming to Arizona was realized on March 9, 1995. Then acting baseball commissioner Bud Selig announced the awarding of a new franchise to Phoenix Arizona to be named the Arizona Diamondbacks. This new team would begin play in 1998. Over the course of the next three years, the Arizona Diamondbacks began assembling their team and endearing themselves to baseball fans throughout the southwest. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes of a Major League Baseball club. Through the course of time, many of the details are lost or forgotten. This section provides a link back in time from when baseball was merely a dream in the minds of some forward thinking civic leaders through the christening of a franchise culminating with a record 100 wins to become the fastest Expansion team ever to win a division championship and make the play-offs. We recommend stopping in for a visit to our cyber-museum of Diamondbacks firsts and a little history lesson along the way.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have begun to develop into a first-class franchise destined to become a perennial powerhouse in the National League West. This web site is dedicated to Major League Baseball and its unique perspective into the American culture. As you enter this area we ask you to open your minds and experience all the sights and sounds that are a part of our national pastime. |
