The dream of a Major League Baseball franchise coming to Arizona was realized on March 9, 1995. Then acting baseball commissioner Bud Selig announced the awarding of a new franchise to Phoenix Arizona to be named the Arizona Diamondbacks. This new team would begin play in 1998. Over the course of the next three years, the Arizona Diamondbacks began assembling their team and endearing themselves to baseball fans throughout the southwest.
