PHOENIX (AP) -- Nine years after both teams were born, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays are still treating the Arizona Diamondbacks like an expansion club.

Brendan Harris fell a double shy of the cycle and Jason Hammel earned his first career win as Tampa Bay defeated Arizona 10-2 on Monday night, giving the Devil Rays a 7-0 record against their 1998 expansion partners.

"It's just one of those anomaly things," Devil Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "Who knows why?"

On Monday night, it was easy to see why the Devil Rays extended their dominance of the Diamondbacks.

Harris hit a solo homer in the third, singled in the fifth and tripled in the seventh, all against starter Livan Hernandez (5-5). Jonny Gomes also homered for Tampa Bay. He and Carl Crawford drove in two runs apiece.

Hammel (1-0) retired all seven batters he faced in relief of starter Edwin Jackson, who left with an injury in the fifth. Recalled from Triple-A Durham a week ago, Hammel also hit an RBI double to center on the first pitch he saw as a big league batter.

Hammel's teammates doused him with ice water in the clubhouse. Arizona has banned alcohol in both clubhouses, which ruled out the traditional beer or champagne shower.

"They told me to pretend it was Cristal," said Hammel, who went 0-6 last year.

Despite earning his first victory, Hammel said the highlight was his double on a first-pitch fastball down the middle from Hernandez.

"It was my one chance to get an at-bat, and I'm going to swing," Hammel said. "It's probably going to be my only at-bat for the year, so I'm batting 1.000 off major league pitching."

Hammel said he "vultured" a victory from Jackson, who left in the fifth with a cramp in his right index finger. Jackson, who is 0-8, had a 3-2 lead and was one out from qualifying for a win when Maddon lifted him. It was the first time Jackson departed with a lead in 13 starts this season.

Jackson allowed two runs and four hits in 4 2/3 innings, walking four and striking out one.

Maddon came to the mound when he saw Jackson shaking his hand repeatedly.

"What are you going to do?" Maddon said. "It's a bad moment as a manager. He's one out away from getting his first victory of the year.

"It was the right thing to do at that moment, for us and for his career," Maddon said. "Because we don't know if he throws another pitch -- I have no idea what's going to happen. At that point, I would have felt absolutely horrid if he had thrown another pitch and grabbed his elbow or something."

Jackson said he asked to stay in the game, but he didn't question Maddon's decision.

"I didn't feel like I was getting any weaker," Jackson said. "But you never know. I go out and throw a couple more pitches and something could happen and I could be on the DL. It's just a bittersweet feeling."

The Devil Rays jumped on Hernandez for single runs in each of the first three innings, beginning with Crawford's RBI single in the first.

In the second, Gomes fell behind 0-2 before hitting a 3-2 delivery 418 feet into the pool area in right-center for his fifth homer.

An inning later, Harris hit a 380-foot shot to right to give Tampa Bay a 3-0 lead. It was his eighth homer this season.

Arizona scored twice in the third on Conor Jackson's sacrifice fly and Orlando Hudson's RBI double.

"They got on [Hernandez] early," Arizona manager Bob Melvin said. "We had some decent at-bats early on, came back and made it 3-2, but (Hernandez) just didn't have his best command or his best stuff all the way around."

Hernandez went six innings, allowing six runs and 12 hits. He walked one and struck out six. In his last two starts, he has given up 13 earned runs and 21 hits in 10 innings.

"I have two tough games back-to-back," Hernandez said. "Baseball is like that. It's happened to me before. You continue working, and you've got to know how to get out of it when you're struggling."

By defeating Arizona seven straight times, Tampa Bay has matched its longest win streak over an opponent. The Devil Rays beat Kansas City seven consecutive times between July 28, 2005, and April 16, 2006. ... Crawford stole his 19th base in the first inning. ... Tampa Bay 3B Ty Wigginton singled in the third to extend his hitting streak to a career-best 12 games. ... The game drew 18,963 fans, nearly 28,000 fewer than the Diamondbacks' previous home game against Boston on June 10.
