Game Recap

PHOENIX (AP) -- Matt Holliday singled, homered and drove in two runs and the Colorado Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks and Brandon Webb 4-3 on Sunday.

Josh Fogg pitched six solid innings for the Rockies, who won for the third time in four games to pull within five games of San Diego and Arizona in the NL West and the wild-card race.

Webb (14-10) struggled for the second straight start for Arizona, allowing four runs and five hits over seven innings. The defending Cy Young Award winner struck out seven, walked two and trailed 1-0 before retiring a batter. Webb had a streak of 42 consecutive scoreless innings snapped on Aug. 22

Tony Clark was 2-for-4 with an RBI triple for the Diamondbacks, who have lost five of its last seven and nine of 14.

The Diamondbacks squandered an opportunity to move into sole possession of first place after San Diego's 5-0 loss to Los Angeles. Arizona trails the Padres by one percentage point for the division lead.

Fogg (8-9) scattered seven hits and allowed two runs over six innings with three walks and six strikeouts. Manny Corpas pitched the ninth for his 12th save in 14 chances.

Willy Taveras led off the game with an infield single, stole second and Webb walked Kazuo Matsui. Matt Holliday lined an RBI single to right to make it 1-0 and, after a walk to Todd Helton, Brad Hawpe hit a sacrifice fly to left.

Holliday later scored on an RBI single by Ian Stewart to give Colorado a 3-0 lead.

The Diamondbacks answered against Fogg in the bottom of the first when Orlando Hudson walked and Clark hit his first triple since September 4, 2005. Stephen Drew's bloop single then scored Clark to pull Arizona within 3-2.

Holliday's homer off the facing of the patio overhanging left-center field put the Rockies ahead 4-2.

Orlando Hudson tripled into the right-field corner leading off the seventh and scored a groundout to cut the lead to 4-3.

Arizona put runners on first and third with two outs in the eighth against Brian Fuentes, but the left-hander struck out Chris Young looking to end the threat.

Game Notes

Holliday, who has reached base in a franchise-best 38 straight games, finished 2-for-4 and edged ahead of Atlanta's Edgar Renteria and Chase Utley of Philadelphia for the NL battling lead at .337. ... San Diego and Arizona open a three-game series Monday at Chase Field. ... Fogg is 6-1 against the Diamondbacks. ... Webb jawed briefly with home-plate umpire Bill Miller as he left the field in the middle of the fourth and continued the conversation when he batted in the bottom of the inning. ... Clark was starting in place of Conor Jackson for the second straight game. Jackson, who took a hard grounder off his left wrist Friday, came on as a pinch-hitter in the eighth. ... Arizona's Emilio Bonifacio made his major league debut when he pinch ran for Chris Snyder in the eighth.
