Although the Diamondbacks improved from the previous year they still finished well back of the pack and no where near the play-offs. There was still a lot to be encouraged for when the 2006 season started.
On April 3, 2006 the Diamondbacks would visit the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver CO.
For only the fourth time in franchise history there was a new pitcher for Opening Day. Right-handed pitcher Brandon Webb would take the mound for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Opening Day line-up featured four different players from the previous season.
Orlando Hudson was now the starting second baseman. Conor Jackson would take over at first base moving Chad Tracy from first to third base. Johnny Estrada was the new starting catcher and Eric Byrnes was now the center fielder.
For the sixth time in franchise history the Diamondbacks lost their season opener after the bullpen blew a save in the eighth. The final score Diamondbacks 2 - Rockies 3 in front of 47,278.
